Creating a Heart Healthy Menu

Heart Niagara recently held our signature fundraiser, Real Gals, on November 8th.We assembled over 200 swag bags specifically for this event. Inside, recipients discovered an assortment of remarkable products including a sample bottle of garlic infused olive oil, courtesy of Della Terra Tasting Bar.

For those of you who are not familiar with Della Terra (shame on you!), they offer over 40 varieties of the highest quality extra virgin olive oil and rich dark balsamics. Owners Lydia Kinos and Reg Paczkowski are happy to guide customers through a selection of mouth-watering pairings, or leave them to explore and discover new flavour combinations on their own!

My own experience with Della Terra products has opened a whole new realm of delicious possibilities!

With holiday season cooking and baking projects around the corner, why not replace butter with your preferred olive oil? Lydia suggests using the Blood Orange Olive Oil on a turkey. As well, the Organic Wild Mushroom and Sage Oil will truly enhance a stuffing recipe.

Maintaining a healthy diet throughout the holidays can be a challenge. Keep in mind a study published online by the New England Journal of Medicine. They compared a low-fat diet to a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil. The results were astonishing. Those that consume high quality extra virgin olive oil (more than 4 tablespoons per day) had a 30% lower risk of heart attack or stroke.

If you’re seeking recipes that include heart healthy olive oils and balsamic vinegars, Della Terra has an impressive collection available on their website. Choose from categories such as salads, main dishes, soups, vegetarian, desserts and more! Visit:
