Looped In!

Here’s how we are doing our part to address social isolation during COVID-19…

We are very excited to announce that #HeartNiagara is offering a new program called Looped In, supported by Seniors Centre Without Walls (SCWW) #SeniorsOntario #TheOACAO!

From January 25 to April 2, stay Looped In with our new phone-in and participate program. Over the next 10 weeks, we will be offering workshops 3 times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 11:00am – 11:45am. These workshops will be developed with the seniors who will deliver them, with careful attention to being applicable to the home environments of isolated LGBTQ, newcomer, low-income and/or physically challenged senior groups. We will have 10-12 different presenters deliver 30 informal presentations through the phone (Workshop Schedule).

Heart Niagara currently offers unique and interesting in-person services focused on heart health and safety. These services will be redesigned to be delivered remotely to isolated seniors. These redesigned, in-person services will focus on a series of new phone-in workshops for improving heart health and safety for seniors living in isolation during COVID-19. The underlying theme in all the workshops is promoting positive behaviour change in the senior population, specifically around heart healthy nutrition, physical activity, smoke cessation, and emergencies at home recognition and management.

– Heart healthy nutrition workshops will include instructions on buying and cooking nutritious heart healthy low-cost foods

– Physical activity workshops will include instructions for applicable and safe exercising at home with using common household items as “gym equipment”

– Smoke cessation workshops will include basic smoke cessation counselling and access to free nicotine replacement products if needed

– Emergencies at home recognition and management workshops will include basic CPR/AED training instructions (no certificates provided)

All you need to do is register for the program by calling Heart Niagara today at 905-358-5552 x107 or email karen.stearne@heartniagara.org. When you register, there is a short survey you’ll need to complete (Registration Survey). We will provide you with a Toll-Free Phone Number and Access Code for the workshops you are interested in. Each presenter will have their own phone code, so you will need to pre-register for each talk to receive the phone codes.

Each time you participate, your name will be entered into a draw and you will have the chance to win a $100 gift certificate. We will draw the lucky winner on March 31, 2021! #SeniorsCentreWithoutWalls #IsolationSolutions #ONSCWW #SocialInclusion #StayConnected #SeniorsHealth #SeniorsOntario #OACAO
